Male Brazilian Waxing – General FAQ’s for Male Intimate Waxing Treatments.
Okay so you have plucked up the courage, and decided that it’s time to get your Manscaping carried out, mow the lawn, trim the bush, or perhaps your partner has booked your male intimate waxing appointment for you...either way I’m sure there are loads of questions that you want to ask and just don’t know where to begin, it may be your first ever waxing.
These are some of the more popular questions that guys normally want to know...
Q. Does it hurt?
Yes, but not as much as you would expect. We are removing hair after all, but the procedure is quick, and using non strip waxes and good waxing techniques the procedure can be fairly painless. The therapist will keep skin taut and this will help in terms of the removal. Some clients take painkillers about 30 minutes before the treatment. On average the Brazilian waxing can be carried out in 30/40 minutes, if there is a bit of grooming or trimming required to begin with this can increase the time.
Q. What’s the difference in a male Brazilian and a male Hollywood wax?
It’s all in a name... Basically the male Brazilian is where some of the pubic hair is left, and generally shaped, trimmed or waxed as the client requires, and the male Hollywood wax is when all the hair is removed. All male Brazilian or Hollywood waxing treatments allow the clients to have as much or as little hair removed, and usually include; groin area, speedo line, and the butt cheeks and the inside of the butt area. All therapists have different names for their treatments so just clarify what you want when you book and the therapist will name it!! Therapists with a flexible tariff will charge accordingly within that price range.
Q. Should I trim or shave my hair first?
No No No... Its best to let your therapist do that for you, as they will trim the hair to the best length which will ensure that the wax will grip the hair (too short and it will not grip) and that the hair will be short enough to make the waxing as comfortable as possible for the client. If you have had a close shave down there, then leave it for 4 weeks before you book a waxing appointment, as you will be wasting your money as it will probably be too short and stubbly and you will not get a smooth finish...Don’t wax and then shave in between waxing, it takes forever to get it back on track...
Q. What happens if I get aroused during the waxing treatment?
Your therapist will be a professional and will ignore it. It often happens initially but usually as soon as the waxing process begins things tend to change and things return to normal pretty quickly!!
Q. When will the Hair Grow Back?
Generally most clients will get two weeks of nice smooth soft skin. If you decide that you are going to maintain your male Brazilian waxing then you really should have this done every 4-6 weeks , and the area will be smooth and hair free for the maximum time. Regular waxing, or maintenance waxing, is easier as the hair regrowth is finer and easier to remove. So if you want to be the smoothest peach on the beach then book your follow up appointments.
Q. Will I get Spots or Ingrown Hairs?
As with all hair removal how your look after the skin will make the difference.... Most therapists will provide their clients with some good aftercare advice and an aftercare pack just to get you started. Follow the guidelines and use the recommended products on your skin. It’s not rocket science guys it’s easy to follow, and your daily routine takes no longer than it does to brush your teeth!! So read the aftercare sheet, and STICK to it...
Q. What type of Wax Will You Apply to This Area?
Most therapists carry out all male intimate waxing procedures using the non strip waxing methods – basically a hot wax that looks like thick honey (colours vary) will be applied directly to the area, and as it sets it will grip the hair follicle, no pressure is required and no strips of paper need to be pressed into the wax, so it’s ideal for the sensitive and intimate areas. When you are looking for a therapist to carry out your intimate waxing, research the methods and wax types they use.. It’s a very sensitive and precious area!!

The Male Guide to Manscaping
The Male Guide to Manscaping..
Manscaping has become the more fashionable term for male hair removal, and includes; shaving, waxing, hair removal creams, and clippering or trimming of the male body hair, and more frequently male intimate hair removal... so if it’s mowing your lawn, or pruning the bush choose the best method that suits your requirements...
For many years it was body builders, male models and sportsmen who carried our regular hair removal. However, the trend and fashion has changed and all types of men are now having intimate hair removal treatments to satisfy their self-image for that extra ‘optical inch’ and a smoother clean look.
With salons and therapists all offering male body waxing treatments, this is probably the most popular choice for hair removal.
But it’s worth looking at all your options and weighing up the pros and cons...
Shaving –
Probably still the most popular choice for most guys. Its quick, convenient, easy to carry out, and the most inexpensive method.
Invest in some good quality disposable razor blades, some shaving gel or cream (that best suits your skin type) and off you go... remembering to throw away the razor and use a new blade each time
Drawbacks – expect some prickly stubble within a few days. Some guys can be prone to ingrown hairs, and shave carefully as you could cut or tear the skin especially around the scrotum.
Hair Removal Creams –
These are now available in creams gels and mousse and designed for a quick and easy hair removal method. The chemical action dissolves the hair and a few minutes later the hair can be washed away.
These products are widely available, fairly inexpensive and easy to use with instant results (always follow the manufactures guidance and it’s advisable to carry out a test patch).
Drawbacks – Fairly unpleasant odour, guys with sensitive skin need to be cautious especially in intimate areas, and the chemical ingredient base may cause irritation on the skin.
Clippering/ Trimming –
The easiest hair maintenance option. But remember it’s a reduction of the length of the hair rather than a hair removal method. Often more popular for guys with hairy chests or to blend the hair in areas where hair has been removed either above or below.
Use good quality clippers with a guard to ensure consistency with the hair length.
Male Waxing –
Whatever your reason the benefits of waxing rather than other hair removal methods is by far much greater; hair re-growth is slower and finer, the skin is smoother, softer with better muscle definition, and generally waxing will offer a maintenance free period for about 6 weeks. Waxing prices vary but some therapists offer flexible prices so guys with less body hair will pay less. Hair is removed at the root so regrowth takes longer and over time the hair is sparser and much finer. Client consultation usually requires a form to be completed and any issues that may require caution then the correct type of wax, or advice can be applied.
Drawbacks –
There can be ingrown hairs and a risk of skin reaction if the area is not maintained and aftercare guidelines followed. Some areas of the body can be slightly uncomfortable during the waxing treatment.
So with the options available it easy to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages and decide on the best method that suits you. Join the revolution and follow the Manscaping trend...

The Benefits of Massage Therapy
Some Benefits of Massage....
Massage can be used for relaxation, stimulation or rehabilitation of the whole body, or just part of it.
Although all too often we only ever treat ourselves to massage when our bodies are exhausted and we have over exerted ourselves and we are feeling burnt out...
Massage is a technique derived from many cultures, used for various reasons; comfort, touch, communication and a safe non threatening natural therapy, whatever the reason, the power of touch is of real benefit and can heal the mind body and soul....So by treating ourselves to regular massage treatments and experiencing all the various types of therapies available is of true benefit to our well being.
There are so many benefits to a massage treatment, and if added to our routine of body maintenance it can help us in so many ways, the real pick you up treatment, the buzz and the healing and nurturing effects of a good massage are so beneficial...
Soothing- for most of us we hold and retain all the everyday stress we encounter and the soothing touch of massage when applied to the body can reduce stress and improve our general well being. A massage therapy that combines a soothing touch when applied with oils and creams can simply smooth away all our stress and lift our mood.
Comforting – the power of touch is so comforting, from all ages we all appreciate the comfort gained from touch, as children when we fell and hurt ourselves the gentle touch from our parents comforted us and “ massaged “ away the pain and discomfort... even animals licking their wounds and healing the pain...never under estimate the comfort of touch. When we are upset and anxious, following bereavement or relationship stress and anxiety, massage therapies can comfort us and leave us feeling safe and secure. It’s a natural therapy and the power of touch can be the strongest non-invasive therapy.
Physiological – In addition to all the psychological benefits of massage there are all the true physical benefits...massage can improve the circulation, remove dead skin cells, remove toxins improving the lymphatic system , and encourage better breathing and all of these benefits can be achieved through regular body massage treatments.
Clients all enjoy different types of massage, with so many to choose from and all of these treatments offering their own benefit.
Some of the more gentle therapies such as aromatherapy massage, or lymphatic massage can improve the circulation, remove toxins and combined with the essential oils can soothe, uplift, energise, relax or stimulate.
Stronger massage therapies like deep tissue or sport massage is beneficial for releasing the tension in the muscle and for restoring the balance. After any sports injury the massage therapy will improve the muscle flexibility and reduce swelling and assist the body to recover and repair the injury that has been sustained.
So there are real benefits to massage treatments, and more and more clients are seeing the improvement in their well being, the improved sleep patterns, reduction in stress, and better muscular structure.
If you have never experienced massage it’s not too late... There are therapists that can visit your home; there are therapists that work from health clubs, spas or a home studio. Whatever type of massage treatment you want, if you feel more comfortable with a male or a female therapist, even speak to your friends, often first timers feel more comfortable with a therapist that has been recommended to them... Book a treatment and see the benefits for yourself and experience the power of touch.

Male Waxing Aftercare Guidelines - The Success of Exfoliation
Male Waxing – General Aftercare for Exfoliation and Moisturising
At London male waxing in Islington, we discuss the best way to maintain your skin after your initial waxing appointment; especially if it’s your first waxing treatment then generally most people don’t really know the best ways to maintain freshly waxed skin and to try to avoid those after wax pimples (folliculitis) and ingrown hairs.
During my clients follow up treatments I check on the results and offer advice on methods and products used if clients are still having some problems and look other ways to treat the situation.
It’s generally only a very small number of clients who find it difficult to manage the problem.
I firmly believe that exfoliation and moisturisation is the secret to success with waxing aftercare....
I have my own waxing carried out on a regular basis and from my own personal experiences if I follow the aftercare guidelines and do the regular exfoliation then it works....We do have to make the effort and follow the advice given to us... we brush and floss our teeth after dental treatments.. we wash and condition our hair after hairdressing appointments, we moisturise our skin after sunbathing and tanning sessions... so guys it’s no different after your waxing appointment....listen to the advice that we give you.
As therapists we often see clients who follow their guidelines and have great smooth skin... and equally from time to time we see clients that don’t follow the guidance and they can occasionally experience some problems.
There are different opinions on how to exfoliate, the frequency and what you should exfoliate with...
However with so many products to choose from, for general exfoliation including the best products for moisturising the skin it is often difficult making the right choice. This is where your therapist can help as they will have more knowledge, will maybe use the products themselves, but they usually get the feedback from other clients as to what works best.
With leading wax companies regularly updating their aftercare range and they all often claim to be the best in the market, you need to find a product that you can get hold of easily, something that suits your budget, (it’s not always necessary to spend a lot of money of good aftercare products), and also you want a product that suits your skin type and more importantly that it does what it says on the tin!!...
You may need to initially use a few products to see what works best for you.
Exfoliate exfoliate exfoliate!!!!!..
I really do believe that it works. But it needs to carried out correctly, you don’t want to scrub and exfoliate skin that’s tender or freshly waxed.
I always recommend that my waxing clients purchase a Japanese wash cloth, I use one and I get great results and the feedback from most of my clients is the same, I retail these and they are not expensive and they often last for many months. Just give it regular wash to remove the dead skin cells and keep it for your own personal use. Loofahs and mitts are also very good, but often we can’t reach all the body with these, but with the washcloth it’s like a small towel so you can hold either end and exfoliate the back really easily just like you are towel drying your skin.
In simple terms by exfoliating the skin we keep the area clean and soft and this means that new hair growth can break through the skin easily and in turn reduces the risk of ingrown hairs. If the skin is dry and lots of hard skin and not soft new hair follicles are soft and gentle and may not be able to get through the skin easily and can become ingrown and the area can become infected with spots and pimples. The hair regrowth will be at different stages and this will have an effect on your waxing programme as short hairs etc will not get picked with the wax... so by regular maintenance it does help in the long term...
In addition to the Japanese wash cloth I always recommend that clients use a good shower cream, something that contains some tea tree is ideal, and again there are many types of shower creams that can be purchased from your local pharmacies and supermarkets that should suit your skin.
Some clients find that using a exfoliating shower cream (with small abrasive particles , or crushed seeds etc) works also for them, and again there are a range of these available that help.
I use a body shop scrub that contains cocoa butter, and can personally recommend this, and sometime I make my own scrub using the cocoa butter one and adding a few drops of pure tea tree oil to this so as well as the benefit of the cocoa butter for the moisturisation I get the natural cleansing and antiseptic properties from tea tree.
Moisturisation... for me it’s like the exfoliation I believe it works.. There are lots of easy ways to moisturise and using a good shower or bath products that’s rich in moisturiser helps, but there are also a lot of good after waxing products that we can easily purchase. Your waxing studio or therapist should be able to offer some advice and or recommendations.
I retail a range of the Perron Rigot waxing aftercare, both in a cream or a gel range. I also retail some sterex products which are great products for soothing and moisturising the skin after hair removal methods. Again clients need to find a product that works for them...
As part of my aftercare plan with all my clients I provide written guidelines for new clients, which lists all the general aftercare guidelines, I give all clients a disposable exfoliating mitt, this is designed to get you started until you can purchase your own exfoliation product range and then I also give clients some creams for moisturising, depending on the area waxed as to the type of products I give clients. All these products can be purchased from me as a part of your maintenance aftercare programme.
I will shortly be expanding my aftercare range by retailing a range of tea tree waxing after care products, in addition to the product range I currently offer, and will have this on display in my studio with my other retail products.
I also currently stock PBF Vanish (Pseudo Folliculitis Barbae) for the treatment of ingrown hairs, which is one of the leading products proven to help exfoliate the skin cell and to “lift” the ingrown hairs above the skin lines. My clients who use this have given good feedback on this product and purchase this as part of their maintenance programme. This is also a good product for clients who use other methods of Manscaping, i.e. body shaving and may be prone to ingrown hairs. Whatever method of hair removal you carry out..
Waxing clippering or shaving just follow these guidelines and it should help...
I am happy to discuss any of this, and please feel free to contact me by email via my website.
