Male Waxing Aftercare Guidelines

With all male waxing treatments regardless if it is a simple male back wax , intimate Brazilian wax or a full body wax it is really important that you read and follow your aftercare guidelines that have been provided after your waxing treatment to ensure that you get the best results and that you know what to expect over the first few days.

It is a requirement from most insurance companies to provide both verbal and written aftercare advice, but it is also good practice to give our clients the best advice possible.

When I have had waxing as a client in many other salons more often than not I have never recieved any aftercare advice so its very important for me to ensure that each and every one of my client gets an aftercare pack.

Certain areas of the body may react much stronger than others and of course factors such as the coarseness of the hair, the amount of body hair, sensitive skin and for those clients who may have recently shaved or clippered their hair, or used any hair removal creams they may react more to the waxing treatment as their hair texture and regrowth will be different.

For most clients it is normal for the skin to feel a bit tender and you may have some bumps on the skin, for areas like the chest and the pubic mound the reaction can be a bit stronger and a few spots may appear over the first few days.

This is more likely to occur when waxing areas with thick hair, especially the first few times when the follicles are strongest. Generally for most clients the reaction settles down after 24-48 hours. If the reaction does persist then don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns

For a lot of my virgin waxers they do find that if they take anti histamine on the day that they wax and for a few days afterwards that this really helps and settles the skin reaction much quicker, when combined with your normal waxing aftercare routine this should make a huge difference.

You do however need to check with your GP or pharmacist that it is okay for you to take anti histamine and if so the once a day variety is fine or you may prefer to use an anti histamine cream applied directly to the skin.

Okay so lets keep the guidelines nice and simple and easy to follow; in simple terms then basically keep the area as clean dry and sweat free as possible to avoid heat, friction and bacteria for the first few days.

For torso waxing (back and chest waxing) bring a clean cotton t-shirt to wear after your waxing and for any male intimate waxing clean loose fitting boxer shorts are always a good idea.

Excessive quantities of caffeine can for some clients cause greater sensitivity during the waxing treatment so avoid any excess on the day.
  • 1. Avoid excess exercise (no gym, or excess sport that will cause sweat and perspiration)
  • 2. No steam rooms, Jacuzzi , hot tubs or the like
  • 3. No sunbeds, spray tans or fake tan applications
  • 4. Avoid hot showers or baths – lukewarm is fine
  • 5. No swimming pools
  • 6. Keep your hands off the waxed skin where possible
  • 7.Avoid sun exposure up to 48 hours before your waxing.
  • 8. Only use products on the skin that are recommended.
  • 9. Do not exfoliate the skin for the first few days
  • 10. Antiseptic creams can be applied for the first few days.
Loose clean clothing is advisable for just after your waxing treatment as the skin may feel slightly tender in certain areas and tight clothing may cause friction and discomfort.

With ingrown hair I always feel prevention is so much better than cure!! So after a few days and when the skin does not feel tender exfoliate GENTLY using a suitable skin wash that offers some cleansing and anti bacterial benefits and combine this product with an exfoliating wash cloth like A Bit of Rough or something similar. Do not exfoliate every day as this can cause problems.

I recommend that you exfoliate every 2/3 days only.

It is also really good to exfoliate your skin the day before you wax as it removes any dead skin cells and lifts the hairs and makes for a more comfortable waxing treatment.

Moisturise skin with a suitable after wax product that is not oily or too heavy on the skin. This will help to keep your skin soft and supple and will enable your new hair to grow upright and come through the skin much easier as the exfoliation and moisturising will benefit the skin.

Now please make a big decision either stick with waxing and step away from your Gillette or the can of Veet in-between waxing treatments you will get much better results and the skin will react a lot less after the waxing treatments.

It is often best to repeat your waxing every 4-6 weeks for the best results and the waxing treatment is more comfortable when the hair is not so long.
Hair should be 5-6 mm for a nice smooth finish.

The Benefits Of Choosing a Home Therapy Studio for Male Grooming

The Benefits of Choosing a Home Therapy Studio for Male Grooming

Unlike some days in the past, male grooming is now a prerequisite. The term does not refer to one activity, but a combination of activities, which eventually leave one looking good. It involves cleaning and nurturing different parts of the body ranging from the nails, hair, skin, teeth among others. Just like there are different parts of the body to be addressed, clients must also choose from a wide range of products to achieve the best results. This is perhaps why people opt to go for professional male grooming hence avoiding the hustle of finding the best products for home use and also save time in the process.

If you are interested in professional help to make the grooming process much simpler, home therapy salons are often your best bet. They offer various services that you cannot accomplish perfectly on your own. In addition, you might not get these easily from your local barber or hairdresser. These range from the traditional barber shaves, tanning, manscaping, male waxing, facials, massage and even eyebrow reshaping. This allows you to get great results without having to test tens of products and equipment. In addition, you can rest assured that after the session, you will be looking good.

Apart from their knowledge on different product types to suit different skin types, you will also enjoy a host of other benefits with home therapy salons. One of these is dedicated space since they are normally spa styled and equipped in a professional manner. Most people who visit the ordinary barbershops will agree that they are usually too squeezed. This means that though you might be comfortable, the stylist might not have enough space while working on your head or face.

These home studios also offer discrete professional services. In most areas, men have limited choices when it comes to maintaining their looks. For instance, apart from the traditional barbershop, one can only think of a professional unisex salon. The only other option is visiting a beauty salon or spa, which most men take as meant for women. Therefore, home therapy salons provide a better solution to this predicament.

With the busy lifestyles many people lead today, one might not have a lot of time to set aside for male grooming. Therefore, finding centrally located studios is a great bonus. In addition, if you cannot get time during your working hours, many also allow you to enjoy the benefits of out of hours service often with evening appointments provided most days. This advantage also benefits those with no time to spare because they can also avoid the hustle of busy salons during the normal working hours.

With all these benefits presented by the home therapy salons, there should be no reason to settle for substandard male grooming. Remember, grooming has nothing to do with body beauty. It is about the way you look on the outside, which influences the way you feel inside. Therefore, when you are looking your best, you are in top form. This can be further underlined by considering other professions that require a lot of discipline such as the military to whom grooming is a very important morning ritual.

Some of the issues to consider in your quest to get the best home studio/ salon include properly trained and qualified therapists to take care of your needs. Even though it might not seem important, the therapist should also be insured. This means that you will only get quality service and should something go wrong in the process, your interests will be taken care of.

You must also check the equipment and products they will be using. Even though one of the major reasons of going to a professional is that they eliminate the need to test various products, you should do your own research on the brand and range of skincare products they are using. This way, you will know whether they will have any negative impacts on you. Remember, the professional serves different people with different needs therefore what they have on offer might not necessarily suit your expectations. With all these details, it should not be a problem finding a good salon for all your male grooming needs.
